Denne biografifilmen om den provokative fotografen Robert Mapplethorpe tar for seg kunstnerens liv på en ærlig og ikke alltid like flatterende måte. Her følger vi livet hans i New York med et særlig fokus på hans forhold til modellen Milton Moore, som kanskje er mest kjent for fotografiet Man in Polyester Suit. Filmen skyr ikke vekk fra fotografens tvilsomme sider, særlig hans fetisjisering av svarte mannekropper og forholdet hans til hans mindre kjente lillebror, fotografen Edward Mapplethorpe. Matt Smith, kanskje mest kjent fra The Crown og Doctor Who, spiller rollen som Mapplethorpe i en rå og ærlig prestasjon, der han er både fysisk og emosjonelt naken. 

Regissør Ondi Timoner er tilstede under visningen. Etter filmen arrangerer vi fetisj-fest i samarbeid med SLM Oslo.

Mapplethorpe

This biopic about provocative photographer Robert Mapplethorpe tells the life story of the renowned artist in an honest and not always flattering way. We follow him through his life in New York City with a particular focus on his relationship to the model Milton Moore, probably most known as the model for the photography Man in Polyester Suit. The film never shies away from the artist’s more problematic sides, especially his fetishization of the black male body, and his relationship to his younger brother, photographer Edward Mapplethorpe. Matt Smith, most known for his roles in The Crown and Doctor Who, portrays Mapplethorpe in a raw and honest way, both physically and emotionally naked. 

Director Ondi Timoner will be present at the screening. After the screening there will be an fetish party at SLM Oslo.
